About the Stampede 2WD
One of the longest-running names in RC, the 2WD Stampede has been the entry point for countless hobbyists since the 1990s. The current version runs the Titan 12T 550 brushed motor with an XL-5 ESC a proven, repairable combination that handles abuse and still moves with authority on most surfaces. The tall monster truck stance and large foam tires mean it shrugs off curbs, rocks, and backyard terrain that would stop lower vehicles cold. Traxxas's parts availability for this platform is unmatched and virtually every component can be ordered same-day through a local dealer or shipped quickly online.
Key Specs
Who It's For
First-time RC owners or parents buying a kid's first hobby-grade truck. Tolerant of rough handling, easy to repair, and slow enough on 7-cell NiMH to be manageable indoors or in a yard. Drivers wanting brushless performance should look at the VXL version instead.
Upgrade Notes
The XL-5 ESC can handle a 2S LiPo, which gives a meaningful speed boost over NiMH without swapping the motor. The stock body cracks around the body post holes over time — ordering a spare body early is smart. The front steering linkage is plastic and benefits from a metal upgrade if the truck gets driven hard.
Common first mods:2S LiPo battery, metal servo saver, aluminum body mounts, steel spur gear
