About the Slash BL-2s
Short course truck racing translated to the backyard the Slash BL-2s runs Traxxas's BL-2s brushless system out of the box on a 2WD platform that's been refined through multiple generations. The low center of gravity and wide stance make it predictable at speed, while the short course body provides enough ground clearance for rough pavement and hardpack dirt. Traxxas built their reputation on ease of ownership: the waterproof electronics, tool-less body clips, and modular drivetrain mean less time wrenching and more time driving. The 2WD layout also means rear-end grip is the limiting factor, which teaches throttle control faster than 4WD trucks.
Key Specs
Who It's For
New to Intermediate drivers who want brushless performance without the complexity of 4WD. Works well on flat dirt, gravel, and pavement. Not ideal for heavy grass or loose sand where 4WD helps maintain traction.
Upgrade Notes
The stock spur gear is nylon and is the first thing to strip under aggressive driving. Aluminum steering blocks and caster blocks are a common durability upgrade because the plastic versions crack on hard impacts. Many owners swap to a 3S-capable ESC and 4S setup eventually — the BL-2s system limits you to 2S. The stock tires are decent for hardpack but wear quickly. Moving to a proper short course compound makes a noticeable difference in cornering.
Common first mods:steel spur gear, aluminum steering blocks, LiPo battery, body mounts, pinion gear
